29th Mambo Event report
2009-12-09
The 29thAnnual Mambo was fantastic. A huge thanks to John, Henry, Glenn and others for another great event. Special thanks to Phil who makes the famous BBQ happen.
This year was perhaps the least swell the Mambo event has had for years but we all made the most of it. Winds were from almost every direction sometime during the comp.
We had a good range of boards with us for demo and it was great to get such good feedback on the new Styx and the new footstraps. The Kipuna freewaves got plenty of use in the southerly on Merimbula bar. It is always nice to get the chance to explain what we put into the boards to make them ride well.
Teamrider Patrick Rebstock came over for the event all the way from California and enjoyed the laidback Aussie style event format.
Patrick won the Gary McKenzie-Smith Award.
We managed to get a few good sessions in, notably Pambula River mouth on the first day and Short Point late one evening.
The usual crowd at Ford Oval spread itself out along the coast from Bournda down to Pambula with the smaller surf condition. This changed the focus of the event as the action is normally all right out front and has all the riders in the one spot.
Josh Porter as the best non sponsored won the custom Underground Styx 132 with the Mambo graphic.
Plans are underway for next year which should be huge being the 30th event!
